When can exercise restart after liposuction?
Walking begins almost immediately, light cardio around two weeks, and strength or high-impact training at four to six weeks.
Movement is part of liposuction recovery, not its enemy — but intensity has to climb in stages. Returning too hard too soon prolongs swelling and can blur the very contour the procedure created.
A staged return to training
Gentle walking from day one or two supports circulation and lowers clot risk. Around week two, light stationary cycling or brisk walking is usually reasonable if swelling stays stable. Resistance training, running, and contact sports generally wait four to six weeks and restart at reduced loads, watching how the treated area responds the next morning.
Recovery capacity differs between individuals and by how many areas were treated, so these windows shift case by case. Swelling that spikes after a session is the body's veto — scale back and review the plan with the surgeon at the next consult before pushing further.
