Showering after liposuction is less about the water and more about the incisions: they need to stay clean without being soaked or scrubbed. The green light usually comes at the first dressing change.
Shower first, soak much later
Once the surgeon confirms drainage has slowed — commonly at 24 to 48 hours — a brief lukewarm shower is typically fine: let water run over the incisions, avoid scrubbing them, pat dry, and put the compression garment back on. Baths, pools, hot tubs, and open water wait roughly two to four weeks until the small wounds have fully sealed.
Exact timing differs with the number of incisions and how each person's wounds close, so the discharge instructions override any general rule. If an incision looks open, oozes after showering, or grows increasingly red, skip the next shower and consult the clinic first.
