How Long Do I Wear a Compression Band After Facial Contouring?

Near-constant wear for the first one to two weeks, then nights-only for several more, is a common schedule — fit matters as much as hours.

The elastic band wrapped under the chin after facial contouring supports lifted tissue, limits swelling, and helps the skin re-adhere evenly to the new bone line. A common pattern is near-constant wear for the first one to two weeks — removed for meals and washing — followed by nights-only wear for another two to four weeks. Clinic protocols differ, and so does how long each individual face needs the support.

Wearing it right beats wearing it long

The band should feel snug, not painful, with even pressure and no twisted or folded edges — a rolled edge pressing one spot for hours can dent swollen skin. Keep a spare so one can be washed while the other is worn, and put it back on the same way the clinic fitted it rather than improvising tighter. More compression is not more result.

Total wear time varies by individual and by how much bone was moved, so follow your own clinic’s schedule over internet timetables and confirm changes at follow-ups. If the band brings deepening numbness, pressure pain, or skin color change underneath — or swelling worsens despite wear and persists — take it off and consult your specialist.
