When can I raise my arms after breast augmentation?

Keep elbows low at first — overhead reach comes back in stages, on your surgeon's cue.

For the first several days, most surgeons ask patients to keep their elbows below shoulder height so the healing chest muscles and incision lines are not pulled. Everyday motions like eating and typing are fine; it is the big overhead reach that waits.

A staged return to full reach

Light forward reaching usually resumes within one to two weeks, and gentle overhead motion follows once the surgeon confirms the tissue is settling. Implants placed under the muscle often need a slower ramp than those above it, which is why clinics give individualized movement plans.

How quickly range returns varies with placement, build, and daily activity, so follow the schedule written for you rather than a forum average. Sharp pulling pain, new swelling after a reach, or motion that stalls week after week is a reason to consult your clinic.
