When Does Scar Care Start If a Lift Was Combined With Revision?

Lift incisions are longer and under more tension than a fold incision, so scar care starts only after the wound has fully sealed — usually two to three weeks in.

A revision combined with mastopexy leaves more incision than an exchange alone: around the areola, vertically down, and sometimes along the fold. Starting tapes or silicone products too early on an unsealed wound does more harm than good, so the calendar begins when the incision has closed, not on the day of surgery.

Sequence: closure first, then pressure and silicone

Most teams check the incision at the one- to two-week visit, remove any remaining closure strips, and clear patients to begin silicone sheets or gel plus tension-offloading tape from around week two or three. Because lift scars sit under real skin tension, consistent daily use over several months matters more than which brand you pick; skin type and scar tendency differ between individuals.

Redness that keeps deepening, a scar that thickens into a raised cord, or itching that disrupts sleep are signs the scar is heading hypertrophic — an early consult opens options like steroid tape or injections while the scar is still remodeling. Sun protection on exposed scars continues for at least six months.
