Can a root canal be done without removing my veneer?
Usually yes — the access opening is drilled from the back of the tooth, leaving the front ceramic in place.
Front teeth are treated endodontically through an opening on the tongue-facing side, which is exactly the surface a veneer does not cover. In most cases the nerve treatment proceeds with the veneer untouched, and the access hole is sealed with composite afterwards.
What to watch afterwards
Two follow-on issues are worth knowing. Vibration during access carries a small risk of cracking thin ceramic, so the drilling is done cautiously; and a root-treated tooth can slowly darken from within over the years, which may eventually show through the veneer and prompt internal bleaching or a remake.
How a treated tooth discolours, and whether the veneer ever needs remaking, varies from person to person. Keep the tooth under periodic review and ask the dentist to compare its shade against old photographs at each visit.
