When can I take light walks after eyelid surgery?

Gentle walking is welcome from the first day or two — it aids circulation without raising eye pressure — while workouts that raise the heart rate wait two weeks or more.

Recovery is not the same as immobility. Slow walking keeps blood moving, lowers clot risk, and lifts mood without the pressure spikes that come with real exercise. The line to respect sits between strolling and anything that leaves you flushed or breathless.

Building activity back safely

Start with 10-to-20-minute flat walks at a conversational pace from day one or two, ideally indoors or in mild weather with sunglasses outdoors. Hold off on jogging, gym sessions, yoga inversions, swimming, and anything involving straining or bending deeply for at least two weeks, longer for contact sports.

How fast activity can ramp up varies with individual healing and the extent of surgery. Clear each step up — especially a return to the gym — with your specialist at a follow-up consult, and step back down if any activity leaves your eyes throbbing or more swollen.
