Which Pills Should You Pause Before Eyelid Surgery?

Blood-thinning drugs and several everyday supplements raise bruising risk, but prescription medication must only be stopped on a doctor's instruction.

The eyelid is one of the most vascular skin areas on the body, so anything that slows clotting shows up there as heavier bruising and swelling. That includes obvious candidates like aspirin, but also fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo and some herbal blends people forget to mention.

Disclose everything, stop selectively

The working rule: list every pill, capsule and powder you take — prescription, over-the-counter and supplement — for the surgical team, typically stopping flagged supplements one to two weeks ahead. Never self-discontinue prescribed blood thinners; that decision belongs to the prescribing doctor.

Which items matter and how early to stop differ by individual health conditions and by product, so a generic internet list cannot replace your own review. Bring the actual bottles or a photo of them to the specialist consultation — it is the fastest way to an accurate plan.
