How should I wash my face on the morning of eyelid surgery?

Cleanse gently with a mild face wash, skip every leave-on product afterward — no toner, moisturizer, or sunscreen — and let the clinic handle the final disinfection.

The morning routine before eyelid surgery is short by design: clean skin, nothing added. What you leave off your face matters more than what you put on it.

A clean canvas for the surgical prep

Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, avoiding scrubs, exfoliating acids, and retinoid creams in the final days — freshly exfoliated skin is easier to irritate during disinfection. Skip lotions and eye creams on the morning itself, since oils create a barrier between skin and antiseptic.

Skin sensitivity differs between individuals, so if your usual cleanser stings or you have active eczema near the eyes, flag it at the pre-operative consultation. The specialist may adjust the washing instructions or examine the skin before confirming the date.
